Hello to you. I bring you great tidings. Grab your favorite beverage let’s proceed together, shall we?
Overtime, I’ve heard people talk about politics and all the games that go on in it, well, honestly I’ve heard more of the negative side of it than the positive side of it, I believe people concentrate on what is not going right with a country and forget the things that are actually going well in the country. I know you have your opinion, you can share that with us in the comment section.
For now, I’d like us to take a look at what Politics is and the basic things you need to know should you want to represent your people in any level. May I say that people shy away from taking up political positions because of the bad label it’s been given overtime. I agree, we currently don’t have the best leaders but I’m certain we can do better.
Politics is not for everyone. It is open to all eligible candidates but it’s not for everyone. So, let’s do some checks and balances
What is Politics?
Politics according to the dictionary is the activities and affairs involved in managing a state or a government. It is the set of activities that are associated with making decisions in groups, or other forms of power relations between individuals, such as the distribution of resources or status.
Who is a Politician?
A politician is a person active in party politics, or a person holding or seeking an office in government. Politicians propose, support and create laws or policies that govern the land and, by extension, its people. Broadly speaking, a “politician” can be anyone who seeks to achieve political power in any bureaucratic institution.
Alright now we have the definition, let’s proceed to the Basic Starter pack for you as a young political aspirant.
I’d like to congratulate you in advance for taking up the affairs of the people, it may not be a popular pursuit especially for the youths of today but I know that you can do it.
Here’s what scripture tells you about politics: Romans 13:1 Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God
So, yea it is an established authority by God. Should you embark on it as a believer? Yes by all means.
Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
Proverbs 29: When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
With the speed of light,
Here are 3 things you should know as a political aspirant:
- Politics is a two way thing: You either win or lose. Before you enter politics you need to keep an open mind. Be willing to consider new ideas. If you don’t have the spirit of sportsmanship, don’t venture into it. Until you’ve come up to the level of contesting and loosing and being resilient and ready to go again, don’t do politics.
- Go with the grassroots: Politics is grassroots(the common or ordinary people) these sect are the ones to push you up to the public eye, they are the ones to take your campaign to where it really matters. The people you seek to represent must feel your warmth and you feel theirs. You can’t relate with the ones you are to represent from afar. Politics is something that builds and start from the local government, villages, town unions, vigilante, etc… Relate with the ordinary people, we’ve seen politicians that couldn’t care less about the affairs of the common people, you could be better. If you have only your godfathers(national apparatus) they can only influence your candidacy but they can’t influence your success in the elections because they are the national level. It is at the local government level that politics occurs. Relate with the people.
- Be developed: Be all round developed, not necessarily a bookworm which is good that you know it by books as well, also be a person that can discuss things at the basic level. Develop your ideas in such a way you can sell it to people. How interpersonal are you? How can you relate to the happenings around you? It is one thing to be a politician it is another thing to become a human being, sometimes politicians forget that they are humans that is why when they become whatever, they behave as if they were never out of power before. When you forget the people always keep in mind that power is transferable.
P.s: Be a grassroots person, develop yourself. Be emotionally stable… don’t respond to every thing but don’t come out as bad publicity all the time because a larger number of the citizens are gullible and bad publicity can easily be manipulated and used against a candidate. Be firm.
Here you have it… Dear ambassador, Go and do exploits
