We are terrified to hear the word “death”, some of us are afraid to use the word death because to some it signifies a bad sign or omen. Different people have different understanding about death. Some who are alive have experienced death in one form or another. Loss of a loved one, a dream, etc…
In the Christian Journey, death is inevitable. Death is the path to life in the Christian journey. Death to self, death to ambitions, death to flesh, death to sinful desires, crucial, excruciating death.
Luke 9:23- And he said to them all, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
We like to be associated with the good things, we all want to go to heaven but we don’t want to die to go to heaven… it’s funny if you ask me.
Visualize with me…
Imagine you have grains for planting, you go into your field to plant the grains in hope for a bountiful harvest. By leaving the grains in your store house will it yield a harvest of maize? No. If you decide to keep the seeds with you because you don’t know what tomorrow holds, you definitely won’t get the harvest you desire. If perhaps, you take the seed into your field and dig the ground and bury the seed of maize, what happens after a while?
If we take out four seeds of maize and plant it strategically in the soil in wait for harvest, when the harvest time comes, you will reap full ears of maize, in their numbers. A great harvest! who wouldn’t like abundance? But the death of the seed brought about the harvest. The same applies to you and I, the life of Christ we so desire can only be found in death.
Luke 9:24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
Embrace the death that gives life in Christ. You can’t live the life of Christ full of “self”.
You must let God lead your life. It’s funny how we think he can be Lord of some and not Lord of all in our lives. It is either he is the Lord of all or he is not Lord at all.
1 Corinthians 15:36 Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die…
We die daily. Each day, we pick up our cross daily, dying to self, to lust, to provocations, to temptations, to drugs, to alcohol etc and choosing God over them all. You cannot have your life by trying to save it. (Luke 9:24). You nail yourself to the cross daily(self-sacrifice). Take up your cross.
Food for thought
1 Corinthians 15:36 Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:
Philippians 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Romans 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
Prayer: Lord, Save me from myself.
