Genesis 11:1,7-9 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. [7] Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. [8] So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. [9] Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
The voices, the people, the color, the races, the tribes, the culture, the good, the believes, the doctrines, the ideologies, the way of thought…different, unique, diverse, amazing, distinct, all synchronising, making harmony, music, a sound, a voice.
And I’ve asked myself, why so many people? Why exactly are there millions of people on earth? Why did God enforce the law of multiplication?
Our distinction is what makes us. Whether you are tall, short, fat, slim etc. it’s exactly what brings out the beauty in creation. The flowers come in different arrays of colors, and scents, while some are poisonous some are herbs and antidotes. Diversity.
People of diverse nations and languages are what reflects the beauty of God. Take a long look at yourself in the mirror, what do you see? I see a person created in the image of God. Fearless, wise, exceptional, beautiful… you can go on. I’d love to make one thing clear. You reflect God. The reason you are not like your sibling or friend is because there is a dimension of God only you can exude.
Psalms 139:15 You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Just like our cars and cellphones, we also have a producer/ creator. We are the product of God’s imagination. And just as an iPhone charger cannot charge a Samsung phone, you can’t fit into anyone’s else’s body but yours.
I know, sometimes you wish a little bit that you were more like someone else, that you are not as you would’ve wanted to be, but you can only be authentic as YOU. There’s something about the way you smile, the way you speak, that crackling laughter, that sense of humour you’ve got, yes! that thing you know how to do without sweat. That is pure, undiluted pieces of you.
Let’s take a look at the twins in scripture
Genesis 25:23,24,27 And the Lord said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger. [24] And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. [27] And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents.
So, let’s do some checks and balances, if you’re the outdoor, adventurous person say Yay!, If you’re the indoor, reserved person say Yay! Yay! OK that’s established, we ain’t the same in every way. That thing that makes you conscious of your differences is your unique trait. Don’t hide it!
Teens, and youths have a weird way of describing what matters, they form cliques, squads etc. You do not have to wear a particular outfit or join a clique to feel like you ‘belong’, call yourself old fashioned, nerd etc that awesome! Not many people can pull that off but you do it so effortlessly.
You want to have an accent, who would speak the way you do?
Oh! Here’s another interesting character in the scripture “Peter” a chatterbox if you ask me, he doesn’t think before he speak sometimes, always has something to say
Let’s take a look at the scenes:
Matthew 14:28,30 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. [30] But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
Matthew 16:22-23 Peter took him in hand, protesting, “Impossible, Master! That can never be!” But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men…
You may have a sibling or friend that is like Peter or you may be like him to, embrace your uniqueness, work with it, harness it. It’s not too late. He used his ability to draw 3000 souls to God in one day after the Holy Spirit fell on them in Acts 2:13-41.
So, if you think you talk too much, ask God how you can use it for the expansion of the Kingdom. Oh! You may think you are shy, you can’t speak in front of a crowd, ask Moses, Jeremiah etc.
In the schools, offices, market places, etc. We see millions of people, each with a distinct character. Sometimes I wonder, how exactly do people behave this way! Oh! I remember when I wouldn’t have nothing to do with anyone who behaves contrary to my expectations, but thank God for repentance, I’ve had to apologise to people whom I judged wrongly at some point, maybe you still do, now you know, they can’t be like you or think like you or act like you, so learn to accept their differences, opinions and don’t take it to heart.
I’ve heard people complain, I would never do that to anyone how on earth could he/she do this to me? Dear, they are not you, they don’t see life like you see it, and they definitely won’t treat you as you would treat them. Period! End of story!
Understanding that people are different will help you relate with them better.

Food for thought
2 Timothy 2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
Beloved if you’re yet to give your life to Christ; you are just in time. God’s invitation to you is still open. You can actually see people from God’s point of view only if you let him.
Receive him today
Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that you came to the world and you died for me. I accept you this this day to be my lawfully wedded husband, my Lord and personal savior, cleanse my heart from all unrighteousness. In Jesus name, Amen.
