Biblical clue: Hebrews 12:1 -end Vs 9 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.We respect our own parents for training and not spoiling us, so why not embrace God’s training so we can truly live?
Give him chance for a clean up!
I love those last Saturday’s of the month when the government declares sanitation day. I get to see families and neighbors participate in compound cleaning, bush clearing and burning. The waste management companies go street to street picking up garbage, all hands on deck in keeping the environment tidy. Oh! sometimes in my home, we do a personal clean up before the day of sanitation. We’d take time to go through the wardrobe and like daddy would say, if you’ve not worn a particular cloth for at least 6 months, it’s not your cloth anymore, give it out. And I’ll be like ‘I’ll still wear it’…but you know you aren’t wearing anything. Same goes with the shoe rack down to the utensils. After thorough checking, things we no longer need are discarded or given out.
I’m certain we all do clean ups; individually or collectively so we can relate with this. Why weights, you may ask? Why not weights is my response to you. Anything that makes you slow down in the journey of life is a weight, and one thing we do with weights is to let them go. I’ll break it into scenes so we all get the picture.
For example, as a student, you set a target for yourself and the friends you keep have no interest in getting good grades, if you must achieve your target, you MUST let them go. The reason we eat light food before sports is because it help you perform during your training and recover afterwards. If you have a multi million dollar idea and the friends you discuss with are pessimistic, never looking at the bright side or making you think like a mediocre, they are weights and you need to drop them off.
Let them go!
Now, to the part that shapes all that concerns us. Hebrews 12: 1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us…
Seeing (that means you’re been watched) believe it or not 24/7 someone somewhere is looking up to you. Lemme give us a short list God, our parents, guardians, friends, enemies. We’ve been given a lot of investments that our investors are constantly at watch to see what we do with what we have. (God, parents) even our enemies are looking out to see that their assumptions of you not living up to expectations are proven right.
In the Journey through life, we have those who have ran the race we are about to embark on, those who have finished the race, those who are on the race, those who are yet to start, those who are yet to give up, and those who have given up completely. I’ll ask you, which category do you fall in?
Let’s look at our model in Hebrews 12: 2 Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God.
That means it’s possible to loose sight of what truly matters, it’s possible to get distracted with the affairs of life, but scripture says “Keep your eyes on Jesus our mediator, model, leader etc.” for he not only began this race but finished it as well. Have you given up on life, God, academics, business etc? Hey, look at Jesus. Yes, fix your gaze on Jesus. If he did it, you can do it.
Hebrews 12:3; when you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!
Oh you may say, he’s Jesus and I’m just Karl. Listen up, ain’t seeing no difference. His name is Jesus, your name is ——, but you have the same advantage. The Holy Spirit and the better advantage is that our helper, teacher etc lives in us 24/7. Is your life going through a rough patch, a divorce, a breakup, financial crisis, health scare, academic tension, family issues?
Hear this; Hebrews 12:7-God is educating you; that’s why you must never drop out. He’s treating you as dear children. This trouble you’re in isn’t punishment; it’s training.
1 Corinthians 10:13 No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.
Hebrews 12:11 -At the time, discipline isn’t much fun. It always feels like it’s going against the grain. Later, of course, it pays off handsomely, for it’s the well-trained who find themselves mature in their relationship with God.
Hebrews 12:29- He’s actively cleaning house, torching all that needs to burn, and he won’t quit until it’s all cleansed. God himself is Fire!
God loves you too much to leave you the way you are. He might let you be in financial crisis in order to teach you humility and faith, he’ll do what he needs to do in your life to make you the you that he sees. Is there a pressing in your heart, something that asks you to let go of someone or something and you’ve been ignoring it. Let it go!
You want to serve God, you want to love him, you want to be committed to his kingdom, you want to grow and experience the wealth of the Kingdom, you want to… Stop right there! Let Go of that “want to “Serve him, Love him, be committed. I’m certain you think I’m harsh and I don’t understand what you’re going through…
Need I remind you that “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man:” 1 Corinthians 10:13. Someone somewhere has passed through EXACTLY what you’re going through. You too can let it go! Lay aside EVERY weight, it can be things or people, it can be habits or secret practices.
1 Peter 2:1 KJV wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings…
1 Peter 2:1 NLT so get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech.
Food for thought
Philippians 3:12-14 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
To enjoy the life Christ is offering you, you must first let him into your heart.
Revelation 3:20 -Look at me. I stand at the door. I knock. If you hear me call and open the door, I’ll come right in and sit down to supper with you.
He’s willing to go through this journey with you, you don’t have to do it alone, there’s so little you can do by yourself.
Beloved, if you’re yet to give your life to Christ you are just in time. God’s invitation to you is still open
Receive him today
