We’ve related light largely to electricity, but the word Light came about in the beginning;
Before scientific inventions began, there was light. But, fortunately that’s not the kind of light I’m referring to at this moment. Today, I’m looking at you as ‘the light’
When we say light, what exactly do we mean? When Jesus called us the light of the world what was he referring to?
All things created by God are attracted to light. Not light as in the clear day or even in the electrical form. Light comes in diverse forms.
Imagine what would happen if there’s 24 hours darkness upon the surface of the earth, no electricity, no inverter, no gadgets working; how would you react? Honestly I’d be terrified.
But do you know people live in such intense darkness and yet they are not aware of it? Many individuals live a carnal life (a life controlled solely by the 5 senses) which is an error in a world that is solely spiritual.
But my emphasis today on being the light is to be people that serve as Christ like examples to the world. The gospel of Jesus is not something that is spread widely in all countries. Some parts of the world hear the gospel more than others and as Christian all over the world we should be the light representing Christ on earth.
Biblical clue: Matthew 5:14, 16 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Jesus was sure to tell us what to expect from the world. A lot of things seeking for your attention, (career, goals, family, money etc.) but what an advice he’s given us in
Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
As representatives of Christ on earth our lives should reflect him constantly. We don’t necessarily need to put on a stern look, dress to suffocate or carry the bible sanctimoniously show people we are Christians; our attitude, our behavior and our way of conduct should.
No one would believe if you’re a Christian if you still fight with the neighbors, treat others unfairly, exploit the poor, etc. A lot of people have refused to give their lives to Christ because of how a ‘Christian’ treated them.
When Paul wrote to the Corinth in “(2 Corinthians 3:2) he said; you yourselves are all the endorsement we need. Your very lives are a letter that anyone can read by just looking at you”.
So do not think that what you do doesn’t matter. It matters to that young child who looks up to you without your knowledge; it definitely matters to that lady who wants to live her life for Christ by just looking at how you behave.
I’ve looked up to men and women who love and follow the Lord and I still do and it has given me a boost at moments when I thought it’s not possible to live a godly life.
Now you know, you don’t just live for you.
Consciously live a Christ like life. Be the light.
Matthew 5:16 Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.
Isaiah 9:2 the people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
You are that light. Live it. Jesus says this
John 9:4-5 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
You should too!
If you’re yet to live as the light in the home, school, office etc.
Here’s Gods word for you; Isaiah 60:1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.
If you’re a Christian and your life is currently not reflecting who you are; and you want to live for Christ solely, say this prayer with me:
Lord Jesus, have mercy on me. I’ve not lived exactly as you wanted me to live. I’ve portrayed a life that is not yours, cleanse me Lord and make me a worthy witness of you in Jesus name. Amen.
Beloved if you’re yet to give your life to Christ; you are just in time. God’s invitation to you is still open
Hebrews 4:7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
Say this prayer with me:
Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that you came to the world and you died for me. I accept you this this day to be my lawfully wedded husband, my Lord and personal savior, cleanse my heart from all unrighteousness. In Jesus name, Amen.
Congratulations! You’re now a born again Christian.
